BETESEB BRUNCH: South African Storytelling with yolizama

We are happy to present a monthly Family-oriented musical series in out backyard! Every event we feature music and cultural activities from a different nation, and combine it with Bunna Cafe's delicious Ethiopian Brunch and drink specials for kids and grown ups!

We wrap up the season this October 10th with a really special show by the super talented Yoli Sangweni, aka yolizama!

yolizama is a South African-born singer-songwriter who now calls the colorful "island of Brooklyn" home. Singing in both isiXhosa and English, she fuses the textures of Southern African music with the melodies of folk and soul to create a transcendent sound. She counts Miriam Makeba, Busi Mhlongo, Joni Mitchell, and Tracy Chapman among her inspirations. She is an amazing storyteller, media practicioner, and advocate for women's empowerment, embodied in her organization African Women Create. Oh, and she is a dedicated mom!

We've been trying to get her back to Bunna for a loooong time, and we're so happy it's finally coming to fuition!

Backyard opens at 1. Performance is from 2:30 to 4.
