What
Sayi y Sebastián is a duo formed by Argentine singer, guitarist, and songwriter Sayi Sinyasiki and award-winning double bassist, singer, and composer Sebastián de Urquiza. Together, they explore a unique sonic universe that blends Sayi’s emotional sensitivity with Sebastián’s technique and expressiveness.
In July 2025, they released their debut EP as a duo, Acústico en Belcebú. Featuring an uncommon format—voice, guitar, and double bass—it fuses a range of genres and styles, creating an intimate and immersive atmosphere that invites listeners on a profound sonic journey.
Sebastián de Urquiza is a versatile double bassist, composer, and singer. He holds a degree in "Musical Arts with a Specialization in Double Bass" from the National University of the Arts (UNA), where studied technique and classical music for seven years. He also took composition courses with Guillermo Klein and a course on the language of jazz with Juan Cruz de Urquiza. In 2019, he was selected by "Focusyear" to be part of the '19/'20 band in Switzerland and learn from some of the best contemporary jazz musicians. In 2022, he was a finalist in the prestigious UNISA competition, competing with double bassists from around the world. He was also one of the winners of the Herb Alpert Award for Young Composers awarded by ASCAP with his suite "The Ordeal," premiered in 2025.
He has played with musicians such as Winard Harper, Guillermo Klein, Residente, Lex Korten, Rudy Royston, Leo Genovese, Vinicius Gomes, among others. As part of Focusyear, he also shared the stage with musicians such as Kurt Rosenwinkel, Jorge Rossy, Jeff Ballard, Ingrid Jensen, Anat Cohen, Wolfgang Muthspiel, and Kendrick Scott, among others. He has performed on major stages in Argentina alongside prominent national musicians of the genre. He was part of the "Manos a las obras" project, directed by contemporary classical musicians Elías Gurevich and Haydée Schvartz. He is also part of Ensamble La Quimera, a baroque ensemble led by lutenist Eduardo Egüez. As a composer, he has recorded six albums, with two more scheduled for release. As a session musician, he has recorded jazz albums, but also songwriters, latinamerican folk, trap, rock, chamber music, among other styles. In Argentina he was honored as "Best New Jazz Artist of the Year" and “best double bassist”.
Sayi Sinyasiki is a singer, guitarist, and songwriter born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In May 2024, she released her debut full-length album, Arrecife Blanco, produced in Belcebú by the renowned duo Juan Belvis and Luciano Vitale. Her music is marked by a unique sensitivity, where song, lyrics, and aesthetics coexist in perfect harmony. With an introspective and cinematic approach to composition, each of her songs feels like a carefully crafted sonic landscape, built with precision and deep emotion.
Her sound blends dynamic and immersive textures, creating contrast and movement, while her melodic and profound voice conveys intense expressiveness. Sayi’s sonic universe invites listeners on a journey where intimacy and expansiveness find a perfect balance. As part of Argentina’s thriving emerging music scene, Sayi represents a new wave of artists pushing creative boundaries, merging poetic songwriting with innovative sonic exploration.
